WACO – The Tem-Cat softball team crushed four home runs and pounded out 17 hits as they defeated Waco by a score of 17-5 on Monday afternoon at the Waco ISD Sports Complex.
Jaylin Kindles connected for a pair of home runs with a solo home run in the third and a 3-run homer in the fourth. Makenna Holland, who also started on the mound for Temple connected for 2-run homer self and Bryanna Salas cleared the bases with a fourth inning grand slam which started a 11-run fourth inning rally for the Tem-Cats.
Temple got thing started in the in the top of the first with a Makenna Holland 2-run single giving Temple an early 2-0 lead.
Following a scoreless second inning, Temple increased their lead to 6-0 in the third with a Kindles solo home run, Holland 2-run homer and an Ashley Alcozer RBI single.
Three errors in the bottom of the inning helped the Lady Lions pull within 6-5 after three. However, that would be as close as Waco would get.
Chloe Prentiss and Kindles led the fourth inning off with 4 pitch walks and Alena Salazar reached on an error by the pitcher to load the bases. That brought up Bryanna Salas who promptly emptied the bases with a grand slam homer to left field and extend the Tem-Cat lead to 10-5.
Madison Wacker kept the offensive output going by delivering a 2-run single which was followed by Kindles second home run of the afternoon, a 3-run homer to left field.
Makenna Holland picked up the win on the mound for Temple. She pitched 4 innings, giving up 5 runs on three hits and striking out 2.
Bryanna Salas went 4-4 at the plate with a home run, 4 RBI and 4 runs scored. Jaylin Kindles was 2-3 with 2 home runs, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored; Makenna Holland 3-4, HR, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored; Alexis Lewis 2-2, double, 2 walks and 2 runs scored; Ashley Alcozer 3-4, 2 RBI, run scored and Alena Salazar 2-4 with two runs scored.
Temple improved to 4-2 in district play and 12-8 on the season. The Tem-Cats are scheduled to host Midway (6-0) on Tuesday beginning at 2:00 pm.
