The Temple Wildcat boys and girls varsity golf teams competed in the Stony Point Fall Invitational at Terravista Golf Club today. Both teams started the season with team scores that beat their best from the previous year.
Boys: the Varsity Boys team, placing 5th, shot 335 led by freshman Daniel Moon who finished as 2nd place individual medalist for the tournament with a one under par 71. Senior Riley McNeil played in his first career varsity tournament and posted a 79. Junior Gage Garth posted an 89 and senior Christian Yerkes carded a 94.
Girls: the Girls Varsity team posted a team score of 433 finishing 6th. The girls were led by senior Amber Lopez who shot a 92. Junior Keraghen Coppedge was next with a 107, and Junior Brooke Baxter and sophomore Abby King both posted 117s.
Varsity Golf Coach Allen Roark is proud of the successful start to the season. “Starting out the year with team scores that were an improvement on the best team scores from last year is really encouraging. Our kids played their hearts out today, and we are going to continue to compete against ourselves and in tournament play throughout the fall and early spring with the realistic goal of making some noise in our new 6A district. Sophomore Christian Adams and freshman Tarin Gowan were the 5th players on their respective teams today (teams keep their 4 best scores for the team total) so with those two and quite a few other, we have some good young players competing to compliment our returning varsity. I’m as proud as I can be, and excited about the year ahead.”
