Boys Varsity Track · Temple’s Johnson caps high school career with bronze in 400

AUSTIN — Temple’s Xavier Johnson was disappointed as he stood in Mike A. Myers Stadium at the end of a long athletic season. His performance Friday night was not a disappointment, though.

Someone was simply faster on this day, and Johnson can live with that.

“Congrats to first place. It was a good race,” Johnson said. “He just had a better day than me today.”

The swansong of the Wildcat’s standout career was one trip around the orange oval that resulted in a bronze medal at the UIL Track and Field Championships. It wasn’t the color of hardware he was hoping to wear home, but it was another souvenir to add to the vast collection he amassed as a football player and track athlete in the blue and white.
