Varsity Baseball · Wildcats top Consolidated 4-2

COLLEGE STATION – The Temple Wildcats picked up a key 18-5A victory on the road Tuesday night as they used a big first inning hit from Jared Wiley and solid pitching from TJ Rumfield to defeat the A&M Consolidated Tigers 4-2.

Temple got things going early in the first inning as the first three batters reached base for the Wildcats. With nobody out, Jared Wiley drilled a base clearing single to right to give the Wildcats an early 3-0 lead.

Consolidated would scratch out a run in the bottom of the first and both teams traded scoreless frames until the sixth.

In the top of the sixth, Jonathan Flores led off with a home run to left field increasing the Wildcat lead to 4-1.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Tigers answered. With one out, A&M Consolidated loaded the bases and TJ Rumfield’s only walk of the night pulled the Tigers closer at 4-2. However, Rumfield responded by striking out the next two Tiger batters to end the bases loaded threat.

Rumfield closed out the A&M Consolidated in the seventh as he retired all three batters he faced.

Rumfield led the Temple to victory on the pitcher’s mound. He allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out eight and walking one.

Hamilton toed the rubber for A & M Consolidated. He went seven innings, allowing four runs on four hits and striking out six.

Jared Wiley was 1-3 on the night with 3 RBI and Jonathan Flores was 1-2 with a HR and two runs scored. Rumfield and Brandon Goynes also picked up hits for the Wildcats.

Temple improved to 7-1 in district and 14-10 on the season and will host Bryan Rudder on Friday at Hallford Field beginning at 6:30.
