Andylyn Schmidt said she’d have to go back and ask her eighth-grade self for reasons why she chose golf. That might be because Schmidt can’t catch up with the present-day version.
Schmidt is busy — very busy. If jotting this down for future reference, make sure the pen has enough ink. The Temple senior is involved in band as the principal oboist and drum major, choir, youth congress, theatre and recently was inducted into the National Honor Society.
But there are still enough hours in the day for golf, the sport that stood the test of time after diving and cross country were squeezed out of the high schooler’s jam-packed schedule.
“It does take practice but it’s after school, so I end my day with golf and that’s when there’s time to practice and improve,” Schmidt said. “I didn’t realize how time consuming it would be, but it’s just a different kind of energy and different type of commitment to it.”
