RICHARDSON – The Temple baseball team dropped a pair of games on their final day of the Richardson ISD Tournament. Temple dropped their opening game to Mesquite Horn 7-4 and their second game game of the day to J.J. Pierce by a score of 13-6.

Temple jumped to an early 3-0 lead following a Jared Wiley RBI single in the first and a Jonathan Flores RBI single and Wiley sac fly in the second.

However, Horn got to Wildcats starter Corey Goynes for 3 runs in the third to tie the game at 3-3 in the third.

The game was tied at four with Horn batting in the bottom of the sixth when Shea Ellis singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run as the Horn tallied three runs in the sixth.

Corey Goynes started the game for Temple. He lasted two and two-thirds innings, allowing six hits and three runs while walking zero. Wiley and Vance Willis entered the game as relief, throwing two and a third innings and one inning respectively.

Temple racked up nine hits in the game. Jonathan Flores was 2-4 RBI; TJ Rumfield 2-3 RBI; Eli Mendoza 2-4 and Jared Wiley 1-3, 2 RBI.

In Game 2, The base paths were crowded today for both offenses in a high-scoring game where J.J. Pearce came out on top against Temple 13-6.

Temple struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Pearce, giving up 13 runs.

In the first inning, Temple Wildcats Varsity got their offense started when TJ Rumfield singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Pearce evened things up at one in the bottom of the first inning courtesy an error. And tallied four more runs in the second.

Jared Wiley tried to keep the Wildcats in the contest with a solo home run in the third. However, Pierce continued to add multiple runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Temple Wildcats Varsity scored three runs in the top of the fifth, a 2-run single from TJ Rumfield and a RBI single from Jared Wiley.

Justin Rumfield toed the rubber for Temple. He allowed five hits and six runs over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two. Seth Bazilius and Antonio Salazar entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning and two-thirds of an inning respectively.

Temple Wildcats Varsity racked up ten hits in the game. TJ Rumfield was 2-4, 3 RBI; Jared Wiley 2-3, HR 2 RBI; Eli Mendoza 2-3, double RBI.

Temple falls to 7-9 on the season and will open district play on Tuesday at the Waco ISD Complex against University beginning at 7 pm.
