Girls Varsity Basketball · Temple plans for lengthy playoff run

Temple won a girls basketball district championship for the first time since 2005-06 and did so in relatively convincing fashion while going 12-0 through District 18-5A. The Tem-Cats, though, celebrated as if a league title has been the norm, with head coach Tamarah Sanders saying that her team’s reaction to its accomplishment wasn’t anything elaborate because “It’s just a small piece of the pie.”

Pocketing the whole pie — or in this instance a state championship — has a few more steps to it and starts with tonight’s Class 5A bi-district encounter with District 17-5A fourth seed Jacksonville at 6 p.m. in Fairfield.

The winner advances to face either Georgetown or Huntsville later this week.
