AUSTIN – The Tem-Cat basketball team won a pair of games on Saturday to win the silver Bracket championship of the Austin Bowie Be-YOU-tiful tournament. Temple defeated Plano East 62-52 in their semifinal match and topped the host team Austin Bowie 39-28 in the final.
Led by Chadricka Pickett’s 8 first quarter points, the Tem-Cats rolled to a 20-9 first quarter lead over Plano East. Temple kept the pressure on and led 35-23 at the half. Pickett finished with a team high 19 points to pace the Tem-Cats. Breyaunna Sigler chipped in 11 on the strength of three 3-pointers and Jhakya Dilworth had 9.
In the championship game, the Tem-Cats had another fast start, pulling ahead of the Lady Bulldogs of Austin Bowie 14-5 and led comfortably 31-17 after three quarters. Keziah Dilworth and Wilashia Burleson led the scoring for Temple with 10 points apiece while Sigler chipped in 9 and Coryn Grovey 8.
Following Thursday’s loss to Class 6A’s #4 ranked Judson, the Tem-Cats rolled off four consecutive victories which included wins over #16 SA Johnson and #25 Vista Ridge.
Temple (5-1) returns to action on Tuesday when the travel to China Spring for a 6:30 contest against the Lady Cougars.
