The Temple High School tennis team closed district play Tuesday night against the Bryan Vikings at the new Temple High School a Tennis facility.
The match kicked off with doubles. The Wildcats got out early in doubles and came away with a 5-2 lead after the final doubles match came off after a third set tiebreaker that went Temples way 10-7. Doubles winners were: Mary Kate Montgomery/Shri Ramanathan, Liz Cardenas/Kennedy Cox, Erika Fernandez/ Callie Hancock, Matt and Mark Swords, Naman Bhaka/ Dominic Gamino.
Singles play kicked off with Temple getting up 8-3 with wins from Shri Ramanathan, Liz Cardenas, And Mark Swords. Bryan Came back with two singles wins of their own to bring the score to 8-5. Freshman Dominic Gamino then completed a great third set tiebreak comeback to win 11-9, and bring the total to 9-5. Bryan put another point on the board to bring it to 9-6 before Temple secured the win with a straight set victory by Andrew Posey to gain the 10th win. Other singles points that came of shortly were straight set wins by both Erika Fernandez and Gretel Adams to end the match 12-7 Temple.
Other winners on the night included Sam Perkins and Josh Curtis in doubles, and Sam Perkins, Josh Curtis, and Carlo Domingo in Singles.
The win had Temple finishing 4-2 in district play and finishing 3rd and securing a spot in the inaugural team tennis playoffs. The Wildcats will play next week against the District 17 runner up.
