Temple Independent School District is working to help student athletes with life planning in their long-term athletic careers, according to a recent presentation by athletic director Scott Stewart.
This life-planning education is part of an overall academic improvement plan that Stewart is implementing throughout high school and middle school sports. Superintendent Robin Battershell explained that the district has been working on developing a “dashboard” for the athletics program for over a year.
“Those basically measure goals and objectives,” Battershell said. “Coach Stewart basically took that dashboard to a whole new level.”
Stewart, who also serves as head football coach, said that some students coming into Temple High School do not understand how important their grades are to their long-term athletic careers.
