BELTON – The Wildcat 7-on-7 football team had a strong showing on the first day of the Lone Star Shootout on Friday at Belton High School. The Wildcats took first place in Pool B with an overall record of 5-1.
Temple opened play with a pair of wins over Elgin (44-32) and Belton #2 (42-21) before dropping their only contest of the day to Vandegrift 37-30. Temple trailed Vandegrift 30-16 but rallied back to tie the Vipers at 30-30. However, Vandegrift pulled out the win with touchdown on the final play of the game for the 37-30 final.
Temple bounced back defeating Georgetown East View 35-14 and then a convincing win over Killeen Ellison 55-2 as the defense recorded a shutout. Dalvin Fillmore high lighted the Temple defense with interceptions on Ellison’s second and third possessions of the contest.
Temple closed out play on Friday with a 30-7 win over Round Rock Stony Point who finished second in the pool with a record of 4-2.
Lake Travis was the lone team to go unbeaten in pool play as the Cavaliers went 6-0 in Pool A. Belton went 5-1 in Pool A while Salado went 5-1 to take first in Pool C.
Teams will return on Saturday for bracket play with the first round of games beginning at 9am. Temple will open against the winner of the Georgetown/Belton #2 winner at 9:40 on Field 3.
The Championship game will be held at Tiger Field beginning at 1:30 pm.
