After going 3-9 in district last season, things were looking up for Temple in March when it won two of its first four games in District 18-5A. Then the Tem-Cats hit a rough patch, winning just one of their final eight contests to finish the season with another 3-9 mark in league play.
Though Temple’s Martha Aldaiz-Sustaita and Anysia Jones were frustrated and disappointed after missing the playoffs for a third straight year, they are optimistic about the future of the program under second-year coach Jessica Oliver. The senior duo said the Tem-Cats are on the doorstep of making the postseason for the first time since 2014.
“I’m not scared of leaving because I know these girls are going to take it next year,” Aldaiz-Sustaita said. “I know they can go far next year. I believe in these girls. This is a team that likes to come back at the end. Our bats would get going at the end of a lot of games.”
Temple’s season came to a close Friday night with a 4-0 loss to Bryan at Tem-Cat Field.
