MANOR – The Wildcat baseball team opened the Manor Tournament on Thursday with a strong showing at the plate and on the mound before the rains set in and shortened play.
Tempe opened the day with a 5-1 victory of St. Dominic Savio High School of Austin as Emilio Gonzales picked up the win on the mound by going seven innings, giving up one run, three hits, and striking out two.
Savio jumped out to a 1-0 lead ion the first but Temple answered with two runs in the third with back to back RBI double from Dylan Cheek and Eli Mendoza. Temple pushed across two more runs in the fourth on an RBI single from Noah Myers and wild pitch to give Temple a 4-1 lead.
Temple had 13 hits in the contest with Dylan Cheek going 3-4 with a double and RBI; Zach Rumfield was 2-2 with an RBI; TJ Rumfield 2-3 and Noah Myers 2-3 with an RBI.
Game was called in the top of the fourth inning with the Wildcats leading 6-1. TJ Rumfield had pitched 3 inning of two hit ball giving up the one earned run.
Reid Hesse was 3-3 with a double, home run and 3 RBI and Emilio Gonzales was 1-2 with a double and RBI.
Temple plays a pair of games on Friday. They will face Austin LBJ once again at 2:00 and Manor at 7:00. Both games will be played at Manor High School.
