MANOR – The Temple Wildcat baseball team got two dominating performances on the mound Friday to go along with great offensive production and win a pair of games in the Manor Tournament. Temple saw Eli Mendoza pitch a perfect game in Game 1 as the Wildcats defeated Austin LBJ 10-0; then the Wildcats got a complete game 1-hitter from Reid Hesse in Game 2 to defeat the host team of the tournament Manor 12-0.
Mendoza threw a perfect game against LBJ to pick up the victory in a 10-0 Wildcats victory. He allowed only one ball to leave the infield and struck out 4 batters. Mendoza also homered in the bottom of the second inning as he went 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI.
Temple jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first with a TJ Rumfield RBI triple and RBI singles from Dylan Cheek, Hunter Torrez and Noah Myers
Temple closed out the scoring in the fourth by tacking on three runs off three LBJ errors.
The Wildcats picked up nine hits in the contest although Mendoza was the only player with multiple hits. Reid Hesse was 1-3 with 3 runs scored.
Game 2 saw the Wildcats take on the host team of the tournament, Manor. And in this game, the Wildcats scored six runs in the first inning en route to the 12-0 victory.
Reid Hesse earned the win for Temple on the mound as he pitched four innings, allowing zero runs, one hit, striking out four, and walking one.
Temple tallied six runs in the first which was hi-lighted by a home run by Eli Mendoza, a single by Zach Rumfield, a stolen base by Hunter Torrez and a RBI single by Emilio Gonzales.
Temple picked up 11 hits in the game as TJ Rumfield went 2-3 with a pair of RBI doubles; Mendoza was 2-3 with the 2-run homer and 2 runs scored. Emilio Gonzales also had a big night at the plate going 2-3 with a pair of RBI.
Temple improved to 11-3 on the season and will close out tournament play on Saturday with a pair of games. Temple faces Austin Crockett at 9 am and Harker Heights at 11:30.
