COLLEGE STATION – The Tem-Cat Softball team broke into the win column on Saturday with a pair of victories in the Bryan/College Station Tournament. In their first game, the Tem-Cats used a 3-run first inning to defeat Waller 3-2 and then used a 10-hit attack to defeat Cedar Park 8-5 in their final contest of the tournament.
In Game 1 against Waller, both teams were strong on the mound Saturday, but Temple’s Makenna Holland allowed just three hits to Waller and picked up the victory on the mound.
Temple grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning as the Tem-Cats scored on a pair of RBI singles from Tayler Guerra and Courtney Massar, followed by an RBI double by Madison Wacker.
Temple had nine hits in the game. Massar and Holland each went 2-3 at the plate, while Anysia Jones, Wacker and Guerra each hit doubles in the contest.
In Game 2 versus Cedar Park, Bryanna Salas had a banner day for Temple as she was 3-3 at the plate with two doubles, 3 RBI while also picked up the victory on the mound.
Temple jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with Salas being responsible for both runs as her RBI double scored Guerra to start the scoring and later, Salas stole home plate for the innings second run.
Cedar Park did respond with two runs in the bottom of the first but the Tem-Cats quickly struck back with three more runs in the second inning. Anysia Jones put the Tem-Cats up 4-2 on 2-run double to center and and later scored on a Courtney Massar RBI single to extend the Tem-Cat lead to 5-2.
With the lead cut to 6-5 in the fourth, Salas scorched a 2-run double to center to stake the Tem-Cats to an 8-5 advantage. Salas then closed out the game on the mound by shutting out Cedar Park the rest of the way.
Offensively for Temple, Guerra was 2-2 with 3 runs scored, Jones 2-3 with a double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored and Massar was 2-3 with an RBI.
Temple improves to 2-4 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday with a 7 pm contest on the road against for district opponent Manor.
