As Temple’s softball season winds to an end, the Tem-Cats have had a penchant for battling and scratching back late in games.
The problem has been that they’ve found themselves in a hole early on that makes it hard to dig out of.
That was the case again Tuesday evening as the Tem-Cats spotted Hutto an 8-0 lead. They knocked off half that margin before succumbing to the Lady Hippos 8-4 at Tem-Cat Field in a District 17-5A game.
The loss effectively eliminated any opportunity for the Tem-Cats (7-18, 3-7) to reach the postseason with two games remaining.
“It’s hard to come back against a team that hits the ball as hard as they do,” Temple coach Jessica Oliver said. “It was a great thing to see once we got past the third inning we were able to hold our own.”
