The Tem-Cat Cross Country team opened the season on Friday morning with a successful strong showing at the Temple Invitational.
Temple, the host team took second place in the 5A/6A Varsity Division and was paced by a third place overall finish from Ashley Rynard.
Coach David Melvin was very pleased with the how well the girls ran for the opening meet of the season. Temple graduated a pair of seniors last year who are currently running collegiately at Trinity University in Emma MacEachern and Lexi Phelps who had been a mainstay in the cross country program. However, it looks as though there are some ready to take over mantle of leading this cross country team.
Rynard, who took 3rd overall finished in a time of 20:34 and only five seconds behind champion Melissa Gonzales of Waco High School.
Also finishing in the Top 10 were Samantha Brewer in 21:33 for 7th and Arleth Suberia, 21:37 for 8th.
Cecilia Gomez was 15th in 23:21, Yesenia Calvillo-Munoz (19th) 23:58; Analaura Carrillo (23) 24:43 and Deidre Nichols (28) 26:23.
The Tem-Cat JV team also took 2nd place in the 5A/6A JV Division running a two mile course. Temple was paced by 3 Top 10 finishes led by Ajah McNeil who took 3rd overall with a time of 15:43. Anna Vivatson was 5th in 15:20 and Sophia Weedman 7th in 16:19.
Closing out the Top 20 finishers were Janet Sisneros in 13th and Alexis Garcia in 15th.
Temple will return to action on Thursday as they will run in the Belton Invitational.
