Tem-Cat Volleyball opened the season on Tuesday night with former district opponent Belton at Wildcat Gym. It was the first game for new head coach Courtney Mitchell a former Tem-Cat volleyball player herself.
Temple however, dropped their opener in three sets by a score of 25-13, 25-6, 25-18.
Leaders for the Tem-Cats were Darby Voight with 16 digs, Jule Hendy with 12 assist and Anna Vivatson four kills
Temple opened the match with the Lady Tigers strong as the two teams traded blows with a 10 all tie near the midway match in the first game. The Tem-Cats were led by kills from Vivatson, Abigail Petter and Tiffani Mays. Belton then went on a 13-0 run to extend the lead to 23-10 and close out the first game 25-13.
Game 2 went the way of the Lady Tigers 25-6.
In Game 3, the Tem-Cats never led but kept close, even pulling within 18-16 late in the game. But that was as close as Temple would get as Belton went on a 7-2 run to close out the match.
Belton improves to 1-1 on the season while the Tem-Cats fall to 0-1.
Temple will now travel to Abilene on Friday to compete in their first tournament of the season. Temple will play four matches on Friday facing off with Graham, Breckenridge, Abilene and Sterling City.
