Temple athletic hall could finally become reality

An idea whose time had come ages ago appears to be moving closer to the light of day.

If so, the memory and accomplishments of legendary Temple athletes of yesteryear may be preserved so that the term “tradition” will be more than just a slogan without tangible evidence.

The occasionally spoken of, but never acted upon, concept of a Temple High School Athletic Hall of Fame may at last be seeing the impetus to become reality.

“The notion has been there,” said Joe Olivares, current president of the Temple Quarterback Club that serves as the athletic booster club for the school. “It’s just that nobody has grabbed the bull by the horns.”

Olivares and other Quarterback Club board members have at least moved the discussion from the coffee pot to more substantial conversations. There is still a ways to go with approval from school board trustees, creating a nominating panel, creating criteria and eventually creating space to house such an honor hall.
