Wildcats take stock with 31 days to go before opener

As Scott Stewart prepared last year for his first season as Temple’s head football coach, he used the phrase “find that last inch” to motivate the Wildcats — who played 10 playoff games from 2014-15 — to strive even harder to improve and reach their highest potential.

That approach certainly paid dividends, as Stewart’s inaugural squad won 12 games and advanced to Temple’s second Class 5A Division I state championship game in three seasons.

But with multi-year stalwarts such as all-state defensive end Taquon Graham (Texas), safety Ashton Logan (Baylor) and quarterback Reid Hesse (Temple College baseball) having graduated, Stewart has a new focus for his 2017 Wildcats one month before their Sept. 1 season opener against rival Belton at Wildcat Stadium.
