Two outs, runners on second and third and trailing by a run. Clutch time.
Consider Bryanna Salas clutch.
Salas drilled a double to center field to drive in both runners and then picked up the win in relief in the circle as the Temple Tem-Cats topped Bryan Rudder 6-4 at Tem-Cat Field on Tuesday night.
“It felt pretty good,” Salas said of her clutch hit. “It got everybody up and cheering.”
The hit came in the third inning with the Tem-Cats (6-10, 1-2 District 18-5A) trailing 2-1, after Salas had scored Temple’s first run an inning earlier on Courtney Massar’s double, and it almost never happened.
The first two Temple batters of the third went down routinely on a fly out and a ground out, bringing up Anysia Jones, who hit a shot to deep center field that Rudder’s Makayla Flores got a late read on. The ball bounced off Flores’ glove as she backtracked, allowing Jones to reach third with a triple.
