Avantae Bell got a block. A second later, he got another one, came down with the ball and was off to the races.

Killeen Ellison’s 6-foot-6 power forward was on a fast break and had a clear path to the basket until Temple’s Jaiden Pate caught up. Bell went up for the layup only to have it rejected by the 5-10 Pate, who timed his leap perfectly and got the block. And a second later, he too got another.

The game — a 73-43 win by Class 6A No. 19 Ellison — had already been decided by the time the sequence took place late in the second half, but that didn’t matter to the Wildcats (2-8).

Not only was it about the only thing the Temple faithful had to get excited about, it also exemplified what Wildcats coach Quinton Gibson has been preaching to his team the entire season.
