Jessica Oliver has a good read on her team 17 games into the season. The second-year Temple softball coach knows her squad is an ascending work in progress excited and motivated by a two-game District 18-5A winning streak.

She also is well aware of something else.

“They’re not a morning team,” Oliver said.

However, beating Waco 16-0 in four innings Tuesday night made getting up early Wednesday for a pre-noon practice much easier to cope with.

“They came out in good spirits today. They were fun,” Oliver added.

Not to mention by late morning, the Tem-Cats’ spring break started — four days off before four days of important practice in preparation for their next game at first-place College Station March 24.
