Temple vs. University 086

Temple scored when it wanted to Tuesday night, delivering 11 hits in a 10-0 mercy-rule shortened, five-inning victory over Waco University at Hallford Field.

Four of the Wildcats’ first six runs were produced with two outs, four players had at least two hits and not an inning went by in which Temple, which took full advantage of five Trojans errors, didn’t have at least one runner on base in the District 18-5A opener for both teams.

But in winning their eighth straight, the Wildcats notched their sixth shutout in that span — this one earned on the right arm of T.J. Rumfield and a clean defensive performance that if duplicated would surely benefit Temple as it continues on for the next month and a half through a league figured to be an adventure for all seven teams in the chase for four playoff spots and the coveted district title.

Of course, the Wildcats (12-3), who are averaging seven runs an outing, will gladly have the bats follow suit as often as possible, too.
