The Bryan boys basketball team was going nowhere until Roderick Crenshaw went the other way.
Crenshaw’s steal and slam ignited the Vikings from a lethargic third quarter into a stunning fourth period that propelled Bryan to a 62-59 win over Temple in District 18-5A action Tuesday at Viking Gym.
“I got the steal, and I thought, ‘You’ve got to go out and give the crowd a good thing,'” Crenshaw said. “I think that was the spark to start our run to make the comeback.”
Crenshaw anticipated the pass and found a free path to the basket from the right sideline.
The Vikings, held to two buckets in the third quarter, rallied from a 54-37 deficit in the fourth period to take a 60-59 lead on Jalen Collins’ 3-pointer with 54 seconds remaining.
Collins’ go-ahead shot, giving Bryan its first lead since he hit a 3-pointer 31 seconds after the game started, was one he clearly wanted. After Temple’s Jashawn Darden misfired on a jumper, Collins raced down court and drifted to the left side behind the arc, quickly triggering his left-handed shot that he swished.
