The Temple junior varsity and freshman boys basketball teams hosted Bryan Rudder on Tuesday night at Wildcat Gym. The freshman team rolled past Rudder 79-37 while the junior varsity lost a tight game 57-51.
In the junior varsity game, Temple came out cold in the first quarter as Rudder jumped out to an early 17-4 lead. Even though the Wildcat offense picked up the pace in the second quarter, they trailed the Rangers 35-17 at the half.
Lathyn Castilleja and Kevon Parker led the way with 11 points apiece although Castilleja was limited due to foul trouble and fouled out in the fourth quarter. Anthony Clark tallied all 8 of his points in the second half comeback. Austin Weldin and Kamron Gossett each chipped in 6 points for the Wildcats.
The loss was the junior varsity’s first loss in district play. Temple now stands at 19-4 on the season and 6-1 in district play.
The freshman game started with the Wildcats jumping out to an early 21-5 lead in the first and stretched that to 36-14 lead by the halftime. Chuey Hernandez sparked the Wildcats as he sank three 3-pointers in the first half en route to his 11 points on the night.
Temple put the game well out of each in the third quarter as Jacob Hudson accounted for 10 of the Wildcats 28 third quarter points as the Wildcats pulled ahead 64-27 on the Rangers. Hudson finished with 15 points. Jaiden Pate led the Wildcats with 17 points with Elcid Smith chipping in 10 and Quinten Johnston 9.
Temple remains unbeaten in district play with a record of 7-0 and are 19-1 on the season.
Temple returns to action on Friday as they travel to Waco on Friday to take on the Lions at 5:00 pm.
