For the third straight season, Temple’s girls cross country team earned a spot in a regional meet. The boys are back for a second consecutive year, after eight since their last appearance.

Coach David Melvin is pleased with the progress and the program’s resurgence, which has grown into something consistent. The next step is finding a way to the next level.

Temple’s teams will toe the line Saturday for the Class 5A Region III championships at Huntsville’s Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park against stiff competition that will serve as motivation and a glimpse at what could be. Up for the taking are berths to the UIL Cross Country State Championships on Nov. 12 at Round Rock’s Old Settlers Park.

“We’re very excited about that,” Melvin said of his teams’ growth, especially after a pair of third-place finishes at the District 18-5A meet last week in College Station.
