The Wildcat and Tem-Cat Cross Country both finished 1st at the Waco Invitational on Thursday.
The Wildcats won in dominating fashion led by freshman Chuey Hernandez who took the gold in a time of 16:22. Freshman Luis Rojas took the silver with an impressive time of 16:34. Close on his heels was senior Carlos Crisanto who finished 4th(16:38). Senior Treyce Bailey finished 8th(17:10) and Damian Soto finished 12th(17:24).
The Tem-Cats also took first as a team narrowly defeating Copperas Cove for the team title. Leading the charge for the Tem-cats was Sophomore Carly Moore who took bronze in a time of 20:04. She was followed by Junior Arleth Subiria in 4th(20:12). Junior medalist Lexi Medlock finished 8th(20:54). Rounding out the scoring for the girls were Jackie Vass in 11th(21:02) and Kaitlynn Goode in 15th(22:00).
The JV girls finished 2nd by one point and again were led by three freshman medalists. Amaya McNiel took 3rd, Alyssa Velasquez took 5th, and Lauren Munoz finished 7th.
The JV boys were led by Zakkary Diserens who finished 22nd and Malachi Ball who finished 23rd.
Coach Melvin was extremely pleased by the performances of all the runners. “We really have a lot of young kids stepping up for the program. We need to continue to push ourselves and to get every runner peaking at the right time.”
The teams will compete this next Saturday at the McNeil Invitational which is held at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock
