The last few weeks of the Temple Tem-Cats’ softball season weren’t necessarily about the final scores that lit up on the scoreboard. First-year coach Jessica Oliver was more concerned with the fight that her team put forth in each contest. She also wanted to continue to see improvement in every facet of the game.
Despite being out of the playoff race, Temple (7-19, 3-9 District 17-5A) continued to grow at the back end of the season and its young players — nine underclassmen — gained varsity experience on which they can build for next year.
“It’s hard to come out and play sometimes when you know your playoff chances are not there,” Oliver said. “But we told them, ‘Let’s find the little things that we’re good at and build on those.’ Next year we’re going to come in and be used to each other and be ready to go.
