Wildcat Tennis takes 2nd place at 17-5A Championships

HUTTO – The Temple High School boys and girls tennis teams took second place on Friday in the District 17-5A Championships held at Hutto High School while also qualifying three team for the Class 5A Regional Tournament.

In mixed doubles, the Wildcats saw their most success as they had a pair of teams qualify for the regional tournament. The Wildcats took top honors as the pair of Bailey Voss & Akash Ramanathan won first place while fellow teammates Mary Kate Montgomery & John Swords took second place. This qualified both teams for the regional tournament.

The team of David Phelps & Nolan Fogleman also took second place in boys doubles to advance to the regional tournament.

For the girls team, it was the second consecutive year they finished runner-up in 17-5A.

In girls doubles, the duo of Sam Elwell & Christina Ciaburri took third place overall while the team of Kennedy Cox & Elaine Farbo took fourth place.

The boys team also took second place overall in the team standings with Gulraiz Ali & Matt Swords taking fourth place in the boys doubles.

The Class 5A Region III Tournament will be held in Willis on April 19-20.
